SHAH ALAM – A mother broke down in tears while reading a declaration of repentance, admitting her shortcomings in raising and guiding her son, Aliff Daniel Adli, 21, who became involved in practices that contradicted Islamic beliefs.
Rohizayanti Ramli, 52, said the formal and public declaration of repentance was made voluntarily, without any pressure, coercion, encouragement or threats from any party.
Rohizayanti acknowledged her negligence and failure to fulfil her responsibilities as a mother, which had resulted in her son being influenced by beliefs and teachings that deviated from Islamic teachings.
“I acknowledge that this failure stemmed from my lack of religious knowledge, my preoccupation with worldly matters, and my shortcomings in monitoring, educating and safeguarding my child’s thoughts and surroundings, which eventually led him to engage in practices contrary to Islamic teachings,” she said while reading the declaration here on Thursday.
Besides Rohizayanti, the declaration also involved Aliff Daniel, 21, and his younger sister, Nur Ranea Ezreen Adli, 19.
The three made their public declarations and pledges of repentance before the principal witnesses, namely Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) secretary Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini, and Mais Aqidah Control Committee chairman Datin Paduka Dr Khadijah Khambali@Hambali.
The declarations were also witnessed by Mais chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.
Rohizayanti also pledged to fully return to Islamic teachings based on the principles of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah, while purifying herself and her family of any deviant practices or rituals.
She also vowed to strengthen her religious understanding by attending recognised and accredited religious classes to improve herself and guide her family.
Rohizayanti further pledged to guide her son back to the right path through spiritual guidance, love and close cooperation with the religious authorities.
“I appeal to the religious authorities, family members and the community to guide, monitor and assist me throughout this process of enlightenment and rehabilitation.
“May Allah accept my taubat nasuha, forgive my mistakes and shortcomings as a mother, and open the door to guidance for my son,” she said.
