GEORGE TOWN - A local man sustained serious injuries after being attacked by two men with parangs, and his car was damaged in an incident believed to be related to an extortion case at the Jalan Pangkor junction here early yesterday morning.
Timur Laut police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said in the 1.15 am incident, the 57-year-old victim claimed he was chased, attacked with parangs, and beaten by two men after picking up a 39-year-old woman he had recently met on WhatsApp at the PPR Taman Manggis flats here.
"The victim, who was driving his car, was pursued by the two suspects until his vehicle lost control and crashed into a wall at the Jalan Pangkor junction.
"Investigations revealed that the incident is believed to have stemmed from an extortion plot hatched by the woman, her husband, and a relative," he said in a statement today.
Following the incident, he said police arrested the woman and her 30-year-old husband, while another local male suspect, aged 26, remains at large, with police looking for him.
The couple have been remanded for three days until Nov 7. The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 427 of the Penal Code. - BERNAMA
