Fahmi Reza in court again for posting offensive content

KUALA LUMPUR - Graphic designer Fahmi Reza who is already facing a charge of posting an offensive content on his social media account was hauled to the Sessions Court, here, again, today, and faced a similar charge.

This time, the content was a poster allegedly linking an Islamic political party with alcohol.

The activist whose full name is Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge M. M. Edwin Paramjothy.

According to the charge sheet, the 45-year old had allegedly posted the offensive content with intent to annoy others on a Facebook profile under the name “Fahmi Reza” at about 11.45am on June 1, 2021.

The content was read at an apartment unit in Sentul Perdana, Bandar Baru Sentul, here, at about 9am, the next day.

Fahmi was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or an imprisonment of up to one year, or both, if convicted.

During the proceeding, deputy public prosecutor Najihah Farhana Che Awang proposed bail at RM10,000.

Lawyer Rajsurian Pillai who represented Fahmi, however pleaded for a lower amount saying that his client has given full cooperation during the investigation.

On Feb 10, Fahmi was charged at the Sessions Court, here, with posting an offensive content on his Twitter account relating to quarantine rules on ministers returning from overseas, last year.
