SHAH ALAM: Umno and MIC have announced candidates for the March 12 Johor polls while MCA will announce their line-up later.

State Barisan Nasional leader Hasni Mohammad however said it is not a complete list as MCA is still discussing their candidates.

"They are still discussing on the best candidates," he said on Facebook live while announcing the candidates.

Hasni also announced that he will be defending his Benut seat.

Umno will be contesting in 37 seats, MCA in 15 seats while MIC has been given 4 seats.

Earlier, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said more than 70% of BN’s candidates would comprise new faces and most of them will be young.

He also said up to 80% of the candidates were aged 55 and below, with proper academic qualifications.

BN had said the majority of their candidates will be young candidates to woo the first-time Undi18 voters.

Johor has recorded an increase of almost 30 percent of voters, bringing the total of voters to 2.5 mil as compared to 1.8 mil during GE14 in 2018.
