Hasni faces three others in Benut

PONTIAN - Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Hasni Mohammad is involved in a four-cornered contest for the Benut state seat in the state election on March 12.

Hasni who is also the state’s Menteri Besar is facing Datuk Isa Ab Hamid of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Iskandar Noor Ibrahim of Pejuang and PKR’s Haniff@Ghazali Hosman.

The announcement of the nomination of the four candidates was made by returning officer for the Benut state assembly Mohd Rafi Abdullah at the Benut multipurpose hall.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Hasni had won the state seat with a 4,447 majority vote.

Polling day has been set on March 12, with early voting set for March 8,

On Jan 22, Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar consented to the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly to give way for the state election.

The Johor government was previously reported to have obtained a slim majority with 28 seats compared to 27 seats in the opposition bloc, following the death of Kempis state assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian who was also the former state’s Menteri Besar on Dec 21, last year.
