SHAH ALAM - The Johor polls is needed to form a stronger state government and to lead the state into “greatness” said Johor caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

Urging Johoreans to cast their votes for the March 12 polls, Hasni, the Johor BN chairman, said voters should not miss the opportunity to choose the right state government.

"A new mandate is needed to steer Johor into greatness. We need this election to end with a resounding result to lead with a stronger, experienced government to bring Johor forward compared to other states.

“We know the challenges we are facing with Covid-19. Despite what happens at the federal level, the southern state has recorded success in various sectors as compared to other states including in terms of infrastructure.

“So the record and role of the party that governs this state must be there (having a strong mandate). It must be far ahead,’’ he said during a special interview with Sinar Ahad.

However, Hasni cautioned that the results of the Sawarak and Melaka state elections held last year should not be used as a measuring stick for Johor as every election has its own unique circumstances.

“To me every election is unique. What happens during GE14, will not happen again in this state election and of course, it would not repeat again in GE15.

“So every election is different. That is why from the very beginning, I have stated that the results of the Sarawak and Melaka state elections can’t be used as a measuring stick for Johor,’’ he said

Johor has seen three Menteri Besar since GE14 with the first being the late Datuk Osman Sapian followed by Dr Shahruddin Jamal and then Hasni.

In the interview, Hasni pointed out that the political instability was not caused by internal squabbling and politicking in PH.

“The (political) instability that led to two different Menteri Besar has nothing to do with BN. In fact, when three of BN assemblymen jumped to PH, we did not destabilise the administration at the time,’’ he said, referring to the PH administration,’’ he said
