SHAH ALAM - Skewed by controversy from the start, PKR suffered another poor election performance in the Johor state election after being totally wiped out in Melaka and Sarawak.

The only solace here was the fact that they manage to secure one seat in Bukit Batu by Chiong Sen Sern with 9,439 votes.

Trailing not far behind BN’s Suppayah Solaimuthu obtained 9,302 votes, followed by Tan Heng Choon (PN-Gerakan) with 3,989 votes and Lee Ming Wen (Warisan) with 1,349 votes.

PKR’s win was among the ones with the slimmest majority by a mere 137 votes amidst 24,820 votes cast.

This single win by the party was slightly better amidst the series of state elections but still fewer than the four seats it won in 2018.

One of the biggest shockers for the night was former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik’s loss in Layang-Layang.

A new addition to the party, who was seen as a stalwart that would attract new supporters if not “save” the party.

The Simpang Renggam MP was even tipped to be the potential Menteri Besar in the run-up to the polls.

This clearly was not the case when he lost to BN candidate Abdul Mutalip Abd Rahim, who emerged victorious in one of the most hotly-contested seats in the state election.

Abdul Mutalip managed to retain the seat for Umno with a majority of 2,815 votes.
