SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi have slammed traitors who have left the party describing them as opportunists during the party's annual general assembly that convened today.

In his opening address, Zahid said Umno was responsible for putting these unnamed personas in power but in turn, they have betrayed the party by defecting to another party.

“The positions that we have today come from Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), do not forget where we came from when we already had the power but when we are no longer in power, we choose to hate Umno,” he said during the assembly.

Zahid also remind other Umno representatives asking them not to turn their backs on the party as the positions they possessed today come from the support of Umno and BN.

However, he added that he took the ordeal as a lesson and for Umno not to "grieve" for too long as this is only an indicator that the party will come back stronger.

“As a party with the longest record of service, Umno needs to reform the country after the destruction that has happened by bringing back harmony to the country,” he said

He also said that the rakyat has now learned their lesson when the government that they hoped for was not what they expected due to the multiple changes in the country’s governance stemming from the deep-rooted political crisis.

In his speech, Zahid has hit out at the PH coalition for their failed pledge for reforms and chided the PN coalition for comprising of traitors and power-hungry politicians.
