New Covid-19 cases leap back up to 18,560, with 44 deaths

SHAH ALAM - The daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has shot back up to 18,560, on Thursday, compared to 15,215 cases recorded the day before.

This brings the cumulative number of infections to 4,166,879, from when the outbreak started.

The country also recorded 44 new Covid-19 fatalities, which included eight brought-in-dead cases.

In terms of the number of cases, Klang Valley continued to record the highest daily cases, with 12,024 infections detected, yesterday.

There were 206,854 active cases, out of which 201,420 or 97.4 per cent were home quarantined.

However, only 690 people were being treated at low-risk quarantine centers while another 4,521 cases were hospitalised.

A total of 103 cases were in intensive care units, with 164 of them requiring ventilator support.

As of yesterday, there were 18,253 patients who have recovered from the disease.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin advised the public not to be complacent even though the country is entering the transition phase.

In his tweet yesterday, Khairy wrote that during the phase, people should always adhere to the standard operating procedures by wearing a face mask and practice TRIIS (Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, Seek) to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infections.
