SEPANG - Only 12 out of the 16 Malaysians who fell victims to a fake job syndicate have safely arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) today.

Foreign Ministry deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral Relations) Datuk Amran Mohamed Zin said the other four victims, who were supposed to arrive together with the group, had to undergo quarantine in Cambodia as they were tested positive for Covid-19.

He said efforts to bring home the group today were the result of cooperation between the ministry, the Cambodian Police, the Malaysian police as well as the Asean National Police (Aseanpol).

“This is a growing form of cooperation between Malaysia and Cambodia especially in ensuring the welfare of our people stranded in there to return home.

“Although the Cambodian government finds that they have violated or engaged in illegal activities in the country, there has been no legal action taken against them to, legal action against them is set aside so that we can bring back our people stranded in the country.

“And they (who are positive for Covid-19) had to undergo quarantine for seven days in Cambodia and InsyaAllah we will continue this cooperation with the Cambodian side through our embassy, through PDRM to take them home when they are negative after seven days of quarantine.

"Currently our embassy is monitoring their situation and will continue to provide assistance to them for further matters," he told a press conference at klia2 on Tuesday.
