TANJONG KARANG - Selangor Umno wants to maintain its ties with Pas through the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact to win the state in the 15th general election (GE15).

Its chief Tan Sri Noh Omar said both parties which were part of the opposition in Selangor needed to be united to reclaim the state from Pakatan Harapan (PH).

He said the political situation in each state was different and Selangor was in need of a political cooperation with Pas.

“If a three-cornered contest happens, it will be very risky as this will give advantage to PH and instead, we (Umno) hope to continue our cooperation with MN and not (continue) with PN,” he said.

Noh said this during a press conference after a breaking of fast event at the Tanjong Karang Ramadan Bazaar site, on Friday.

The Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister said a study on voters showed that the number of Malay voters and non-Malay voters in Selangor were almost the same.

“There are several state assembly and Parliament (seats) in Selangor that have a Malay majority and if the seats were divided, it would only give PH candidates the advantage,” said the Tanjong Karang MP.

He said the cooperation between Umno and Pas through MN remained good and that they often hold joint programmes together.

“Recently, I had a discussion with Selangor Pas commissioner Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi on the fact that Selangor is different from the other states.

“In Selangor, we maintain the spirit of the opposition and if we want to take over the state, Umno and Pas must work together to bring PH down,” he said.

However, Noh said both parties would still abide by the decisions made by their respective central leaderships.

“So far, I have not received any instructions from the leadership, and Selangor Umno still maintains a good relationship with Pas” he said.
