SHAH ALAM - Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong will look into the issue of faulty facilities in the Ampang Park LRT station in which both lift and escalator stopped working at the same time.

This comes after he had received complaints made by members of the public and several individuals to reduce the burden of the disabled communities in using the facilities in the LRT stations.

However, he said the problem only occurred at the LRT Ampang Park station.

“One immediate action has been taken by Prasarana to ensure both facilities to be repaired immediately as it leaves the public with no choice as well as causing inconvenience to the users, especially the handicapped,” he said during the inspection visit with the Health and Safety Department (DOSH) accompanied by Senator Ras Adiba.

The minister also said the inspection that has been carried out on the lift and escalator at the station found out that the maintenance can only be carried out by OEM, which is the manufacturer of the facilities.

“The maintenance should not be done by the company that does not have the knowledge on the components of the facilities as well as not mixing up the spare parts.

“OEM has received the order from Prasarana to accelerate the process because of the problems that occur simultaneously,” he said.

He also added that, as of Sunday (May 22), the facilities are ready to be used again and the inspection must be made by DOSH every 15 months to ensure the safety of the users.

"Detailed inspections by the department were carried out today for the facilities concerning lift and escalators at the Ampang Park LRT Station to ensure its safety.

“DOSH is satisfied with the work that has been done by RapidRail’s party and the renewal of permit for the approval of the lift and escalator has been issued and comes into effect today,” he explained.

Commenting further, he said that 97.2 per cent of lifts and 93 per cent of escalators in all RapidRail stations are operational.

The remaining facilities could be under maintenance and waiting for spare parts from China.
