KUALA LUMPUR - Agritech company Sunway XFarms is set to launch the largest indoor vertical farm in the city centre here in the third quarter of 2022, as part of its commitment to increasing sustainable and close-to-consumer food production.

Sunway XFarms chief operating officer Eleanor Choong said the farm produce is grown faster and healthier with significantly less wastage by leveraging precision farming technologies.

"By using 90 per cent less water compared to traditional farming, XFarms is able to yield 10 times more produce with less than 5.0 per cent on-farm wastage,” she said in the statement today.

Choong said to ensure consistently high quality, the produce is grown in a safe and controlled environment, powered by a range of smart Internet-of-Things (loT) sensors and cameras, providing live analysis and information to the farm managers.

"Sunway XFarms builds farms that are both market and technology driven. Our smart farm ecosystem allows us to remotely manage our farm output, match it to demand accurately and make informed decisions using data collected and analysed from hundreds of data points at any given time,” she added.

The urban farm, which will occupy three floors spanning 37,000 square feet of Sunway Tower, is expected to produce at least 13,000 kg of fresh, healthy and pesticide-free vegetables per month.

The new Sunway XFarms hub at Sunway Tower will allow the urban population of the city to enjoy fresh produce with maximum nutritional benefits, grown in the heart of the city and delivered to restaurants and consumers within three hours of harvest. - BERNAMA
