75 MPs oppose the appointment of federal counsel in Ain's suit

SHAH ALAM - A total of 75 MPs have expressed concerns over the Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) appointment to defend the teacher who allegedly made a rape joke in Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam classroom last year to be reversed.

They say the decision by AGC was shocking.

"Appointing a federal counsel in the civil action to defend private actions by the teacher who had initiated the suit will further tarnish the already negative perception of the Education Ministry and the government," the MPs said in a statement.

"Ain’s case has created more unwarranted fears and concerns within parents and students in all our schools and the education system.

"Taxpayers’ money should be spent appropriately," they said.

Those who signed were Pandan MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Seremban MP Anthony Loke Side Fook, Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

They further said that the Keluarga Malaysia government, especially the Attorney-General's Chambers and the Education Ministry, should be impartial in this matter.

"The AGCs as the guardian of public interest should stop taking sides in this very sensitive case," said the MPs.

The MPs further said the government should focus on providing a conducive learning environment in schools nationwide.

It was reported that last week, Ain and her father, Saiful Nizam Ab Wahab, filed an affidavit in which they said it was “improper” and irregular for the senior federal counsel to act for the teacher and former headmistress as they were sued in their personal capacities.
