SHAH ALAM - The momentum for "Walk for the Independence of the Judiciary" this Friday is gaining momentum after former Malaysian Bar president Ambiga Sreenevasan urged all lawyers to attend the walk.

The comes after allegations of judicial intimidation last month.

"Calling all lawyers! Get ready for one of the most important walks of your career.

"The Walk for the Independence of the Judiciary this Friday 17th June at 10am, padang Merbok! Retweet please!," Ambiga tweeted.

Other than Ambiga, The Malaysian Bar has also called out on lawyers to join the march from Padang Merbok to the Parliament with lawyers wearing their chamber attire, to uphold the independence of the judiciary.

It all started after Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) initiated probe on Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nazlan Ghazali over allegations that claimed he had unexplained wealth.

Nazlan was the high court judge and had convicted former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak of abuse of power, corruption and money laundering.

Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat has said the criticism over the judiciary has gone overboard.
