KUALA LUMPUR - The organisers of the Walk for Judicial Independence held at Padang Merbok, Jalan Parlimen, here, yesterday will be called by the police next week.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya said an estimate of 220 individuals comprising members of the Malaysian Bar were present at the rally and his men had already identified the individuals who would be called to have their statements recorded.

“We have identified the individuals to be called including all the organisers present at the rally.

"All of them will be called to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) next week," he said in a statement today.

On Friday, it was reported that the police had identified several individuals who would be called to assist in the investigation under Section 15 (3) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, Rule 6 and Rule 7.

The Walk for judicial independence organised by the Malaysian Bar had demanded that the country's judiciary remain free from the influence of any party.

The rally began with speeches from several Bar Council leaders at 10am before they tried to march to Parliament to hand over the memorandum to Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin on behalf of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

However, their march was not allowed before the negotiations were held by members of the Malaysian Bar with the police.
