SHAH ALAM - Bosses have heaved a sigh of relief after the setting up of a one-stop centre by the human resources ministry to get approval for foreign workers.

Malaysia Employers Federation (MEF) said the ministry could be the sole agency to recruit and manage foreign workers.

Its President Datuk Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the move will allow the ministry to get all requirements approved instead of going through cross-ministerial involvements, causing delays and costs to apply for foreign workforce.

"We hope that the one-stop centre under the ministry will assist in getting foreign workers for all sectors on an urgent basis," he said in a statement.

He further suggested a special desk to be set up by the government as a dedicated foreign workers desk to manage any issues related to foreign workers, this comes as all Malaysian employers have been demanding for manpower to work in various sectors to fulfil consumer demand after the pandemic.

"This is to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the one-stop centre. MEF is ever willing to assist in any way to support the success of this," he added.

Along with the suggestions, MEF further wants stakeholders from MEF, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and SMEs to be part of discussions on matters related to foreign workers.
