SHAH ALAM - Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has said the appointment of former Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) information chief Isham Jalil as Umno Supreme member was to fill the vacancy left by Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

He said Tajuddin was released from the supreme council post to give the Pasir Salak MPs time to focus on his Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia post.

"(Due to) Datuk Seri Tajuddin was terminated from his appointment to give him the opportunity to serve full-time as Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia, the vacant position was filled by Isham Jalil," he told reporters when met at the World Trade Center (WTC) Kuala Lumpur last night.

Meanwhile, when asked about the approval status of the party's constitutional amendment made recently, Ahmad said he hoped that the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) would come up with an immediate decision on the matter.

“I have sent all the additional documents requested by RoS and we have completed them. We have also written a formal letter and we hope that the RoS approves because we have followed all the procedures that have been set.

“Meanwhile, we know that MCA has made similar constitutional amendments which means RoS allows parties to make an immediate decision,” he said.

Umno delegates at the Umno Special General Assembly last May unanimously approved a constitutional amendment that, among others, allows party elections to be held no more than six months after the General Election (GE).

Meanwhile, Isham through a post on his Facebook on Friday expressed his appreciation to Umno President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the trust given as the new council member
