Former PKR Srikandi chief arrested over viral video

SHAH ALAM - Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Srikandi chief Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail was arrested at about 1.40pm today to aid the police’s investigation of a viral video uploaded on her TikTok account recently.

Siti Aishah who was also a senator informed about the arrest through a WhatsApp message as the police escorted her to Sungai Senam Police Station, Ipoh after her house was raided by three vehicles comprising Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) personnel and police.

Aishah said it was clear that the arrest was made in relation to a video uploaded on TikTok where she claimed that several commodities and food items were facing price increases and the abolition of subsidies starting from July 1.

"At 1.40pm, three vehicles, one from MCMC and two others from Sungai Senam Police Station (Criminal Investigation Division) arrived at my home.

"At that time, only my father was there as I had just left to send my child to school before returning in 15 minutes.

“They had raided my room and searched for the phone and video equipment that could be used by me to make the TikTok video.

"The phone and video were confiscated, and I am now brought to the Sungai Senam District Police Headquarters, Ipoh for investigations.

“For now, I am accused of two cases which is the conviction of the content of the video and the other is based on a police report lodged by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) about the video content at Dang Wangi Police Station, recently.

"I was escorted by the police to the Sungai Senam Police Station to record the statement regarding the two accusations," Aishah said in a message through WhatsApp today.

Earlier, Aishah had uploaded a three-minute video on TikTok that explained the estimation of how much commodities and food would cost after the abolition of the subsidies on July 1.

The video became viral on social media and caused a few NGOs to make a police report.

Meanwhile, Perak PKR State Governing Council chairman Lim Boon Chye confirmed the arrest of Aishah and told the parties who were managing the case and lawyers to help free the latter.

"We are still waiting for further explanation from police regarding Aishah," he said.
