KOTA KINABALU - Stop internal clashes, Sembrong MP Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein urge Umno leaders.

The Senior Minister (Defense) said such situations could open opportunities for other parties to provoke the the party’s top brass.

"Personally, I feel that such clashes must be stopped and I hope that no one, at all levels, will not take advantage of this situation further provoke the leaders.

“Like the coalition we see today in the Defence Ministry, the Royal Malaysian Navy and the state government comes from the same platform, and because of that, all efforts to pit leaders against one another whether in the party or in government must be stopped,” he said.

Hishammuddin said this to reporters when asked to comment on different camps in Umno after attending the Opening Ceremony of Kota Kinabalu Naval Air Station and 503 Squadron as well as the handover of Maritime Operations Helicopters (HOM) at the Kota Kinabalu RMN Base, here, on Friday.

He said the people will punish the party if the infighting continues and that it can also happen to other parties.

"It depends on us to let it continue, (and) eventually the people will judge us. However, it will not only happen in Umno or BN as other parties are also facing the same situation.

“It is unfair if we are only focusing on Umno when it becoming a phenomenon.

“But I am certain Umno has experienced this before and has handled it well, previously Umno leaders faced bigger clashes but Umno has always been a party that is relied upon by the people.

"I am confident that we are able to convince the people that our party can still be relied upon to ensure the security, economy and political stability. It is up to us to show that we can rise and tackle such issues,” he said.
