KLUANG - A student sustained serious injuries after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into an elephant on Jalan Kota Tinggi - Kluang near Taman Seri Impian here on Thursday night.

In the 10pm incident, the victim, Muhammad Danish Saedin, 17, was riding a motorcycle alone in the area.

The victim's mother, Mislawati Paiman, 46, said it was understood that the accident happened while her son was on his way back to their home in Taman Sri Lambak here.

"Before the incident, my son was said to have filled up the fuel of his motorcycle at Taman Seri Impian and then left to continue his journey home before hitting the elephant while on the way.

"I found out about the accident from my son’s friends who rushed to find me at home.

"It was a shock and our family rushed to the Emergency Unit of Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital afterwards.

"It is understood that witnesses to the incident said that my son was still conscious when passers-by found him after the crash," she said when contacted on Friday.

She said Danish was still being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), Johor Bahru

"The doctor informed me that there is bleeding in his head, and he is currently put in medically induced coma and is reported to be stable," she said.

In the meantime, Mislawati hopes that the authorities would take serious the issue of elephants roaming around near residential areas in this district.

"I request the authorities to install streetlights in the area because it is dark at night.

"I hope this kind of incident will not happen again," she said.
