KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Wanita is set to refine its machinery to gain voters in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) which is highly likely to be held this year.

Its chief Datuk Noraini Ahmad said it was essential that the wing prepared its machinery before the time came as the previous GE14 and Covid-19 pandemic had changed the political landscape in the country.

“The support from the rakyat has become a dynamic that comes with various changes.

“Sometimes we bring changes, sometimes we are forced to accept changes.

“As Umno machinery, we need to be ready with whatever changes in the country but today, I would like to invite the members of Umno to be the catalyst in bringing changes to the country,” she said at the 2022 Wanita Umno Convention at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.

In tandem with that, she said it was important to give new offerings to the people to regain the confidence of the voters during the GE15.

“The election, which is a new mandate from the people, will come at any time, the latest would be in August next year, but it is highly likely to be held this year so lets not be comfortable as we do not have much time,” she said.

Noraini said Wanita Umno members should mobilise campaigns to garner support from the people.

She stressed that Wanita Umno had been focusing on seven segments of women empowerment: women’s educational empowerment, higher educational transformation, sustainable development of women’s economy, defence of religion and welfare, women in administration, priority of women’s social security, competitiveness in IT and technology.

In her speech, Noraini also expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri as he had initiated changes to empower women in various aspects, such as the Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) and government-linked companies (GLCs) to include women in the administration.

This, she said, was to fill the 30 per cent gap of women involvement as policymakers in the country.

“Wanita Umno will always support the goals to reach 30 per cent of women involvement in the country.

‘BN has a long history in the development of the country in the aspect of economy, security, the welfare of the people, and many more and one of these can be denied by anyone,” she said.
