IPOH - The Perak government is determining the actual cost of restoring the Pasir Salak Historical Complex in Kampung Gajah, 71 km from here, that is reportedly in disrepair.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the matter was raised at the State Executive Council meeting and the responsibility of handling it had been given to state Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman, Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi.

"We don’t know the actual cost yet but are aware of the high cost involved in restoring the neglected buildings with a lot of the wooden structures decaying.

"We will look at the situation, whether we can afford the restoration work using funds from the state government or to seek funding from the federal government,” he said at a press conference at the Perak state government's ‘Meet Customers Day’ event held at Indera Mudia Stadium, here, today.

Saarani said the state welcomed the private sector to manage the historical complex and any interested party could send in their application to the state government, not just to restore it as a location of an incident that had changed the historical journey of this country for the coming generations to know about.

He said the Request for Bids (RFB) document would be made available soon and any interested party is welcomed to repair and restore this historical complex, with its Rumah Kutai already rotting and Perak State Historical Gallery there no longer visited by tourists.

This historical complex used to be popular with local and foreign tourists but now increasingly deserted with some of its buildings in a state of neglect while its monuments and tunnel are still attracting some visitors.

On a woman said to be from Perak and claimed to have worn the ihram (men’s pilgrimage attire of unsewn white cloth) when performing umrah in Mecca, with her action gone viral, Saarani said everyone must be aware of and strictly adhere to the religious rules set. - BERNAMA
