50 from asnaf, B40 communities join iTekad CIMB Islamic Rider Entrepreneur Programme

According to CIMB Islamic chief executive officer (CEO) Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, CIMB Classic and Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM) have contributed wakaf (endowment) funds totalling RM300,000 as seed funding for the second edition of the programme through the application of the wakaf concept where they will be bonded for 12 months.
"The participants will be trained and then start working with foodpanda Malaysia for 12 months, with continuous coaching and monitoring,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the signing ceremony of the iTEKAD CIMB Islamic Rider Entrepreneur Programme collaboration agreement between CIMB Islamic, Yayasan Belia Malaysia (YBM) and YWM here today.
It was signed by Ahmad Shahriman, YWM CEO Prof Amir Shaharuddin and YBM CEO Datuk Mustapa Othman.
Elaborating, Ahmad Shahriman said that upon successful completion of their one-year work placement with foodpanda Malaysia, the riders would have the option of continuing their employment with foodpanda Malaysia or becoming full-fledged entrepreneurs.
"After 12 months, the wakaf motorcycled used by the participants will be given to them as gifts with the option of continuing to earn a living with foodpanda Malaysia after the programme ends or starting their own business with the entrepreneurial knowledge imparted to them.
"Those who opt to start a business, we will list them under the extended programmes like CIMB MicroBiz Ready or CIMB Islamic-Taylor’s Entrepreneurship Programme, in addition to having the opportunity to apply for business capital through Bank Negara Malaysia’s Micro Enterprises Facility,” he said.
He said YBM will act as the programme’s overall coordinator mobilising the procurement and distribution of motorcycles and the welfare of the participants as well as forging close cooperation with Taylor’s Community as a provider of quality entrepreneurship training.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad said in his speech that they would place priority on moving wakaf products that can provide benefits to the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family), especially in looking after the welfare of the needy.
"The Islamic institution must truly function in caring for the needy, like those in the B40, poor and asnaf groups,” he said.
