KAJANG - MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M Saravanan rebutted the statement made by Johor Umno Deputy Chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed who suggested that Umno should not rely on Barisan Nasional (BN)’s component parties to face the 15th General Election (GE15).

Saravanan said the parties in BN at this point should unite and support each other to strengthen their position thus ensuring their return to the helm of the government.

"People like Jazlan are the cause of BNa's collapse. This is the problem faced now, (Jazlan) has never been aware of the role of MIC and MCA which had given 'fix deposit' to BN to win in the Melaka and Johor State Elections (SE).

"Today's government under the leadership of the Prime Minister tries to defend the institution, but people like Jazlan are quick to protest," he said at a press conference after the ‘Diskusi Minda Programme: The issue of foreign workers in Malaysia, what is the solution’ organised by the National Council of Professors (MPN) on Friday.

He said this when asked to comment on Jazlan's statement last week that Umno would be 'crippled' in the next 10 years if it still did not dare to make changes.

Jazlan reportedly said that Umno could no longer expect a large contribution of MIC and MCA to BN in GE15 because until now it had not seen non-Malay voters backing BN.

In the meantime, Saravan said, BN which combines Umno, MIC and MCA was established on the basis of a struggle and not for the benefit of individuals.

"History has proven that, once all the Malay parties under Umno, today the Malays have several parties.

"Everyone left Umno, what’s left are MIC and MCA who are still loyal, otherwise BN doesn't exist," he said.
