SHAH ALAM - The Federal Court's decision to uphold Datuk Seri Najib Razak's sentence shows that the justice is served, says Damasanara MP Tony Pua.

However, Pua emphasised that the SRC International issue is one fraction of crime Najib has committed and there are more complicated cases of him pending in the court.

"On this particular case, the justice is served, however there are more complicated cases pending for him in court," he said to Sinar Daily.

On another note, Tony expressed his dissapointment on how the Attorney-General (AG) office is plagued with political interference and bias.

"We are thankful that the SRC case has proceeded with strong prosecution.

"Unfortunately, while we are happy with the judiciary which found its independence during the short Pakatan Harapan's (PH) reign, it is not so for the AG's office which is plagued with both bias, political interference and incompetence," he said when asked on about the fair judgement on corruption cases in the future.

Pua also said there were many corruption cases instituted during PH's governance which has been withdrawn over the past two years.

"We have seen the shocking refusal by the AG to charge Serba Dinamik's directors for commercial corruption despite the blatant abuse.

"This left the Securities Commission with little options but to 'merely' impose the maximum compound of RM3 million.

"While we have been happy with the revival of our judicial independence, the judges can only judge if the AG does its work," he reasoned.

However, Pua said the AG's performance is weak and dissapointing in Najib's case.

Commenting further, Pua said perhaps Barisan Nasional will be affected in the upcoming General Election due to Najib's ongoing court cases.

Yesterday, the Federal Court dismissed Najib Razak's final appeal to set aside his conviction, jail sentence and fine imposed over the SRC International case.

Following the decision, the former prime minister was ordered to serve 12 years in prison and pay the fine of RM210 million.

Pua previously filed a suit against Najib and the government on Jan 16, 2017 on the grounds that he had allegedly misused his public office and received monetary benefits from 1MDB.

At the time, Najib was the the Pekan MP, and he served as the prime minister and was also the Chairman for 1MDB Advisory Board. o

The High Court however dismissed Pua's suit and the Damansara MP failed his appeal at the Court of Appeal in July 2018 which upheld the High Court's decision.
