SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claims that the imprisonment of the Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not cleanse Umno.

Dr Mahathir, who had led Umno for 22 years as president described the current culture of the party was different, no longer how it was when it was first established.

The Langkawi MP claimed that while Najib was the prime minister, all actions done by him were accepted, supported and defended by Umno.

"Umno's stance and attitude show that the entire party was no longer holding the principles of fighting for the nation, country and religion," he said in a post on his Facebook on Tuesday.

The Federal Court previously upheld Najib's conviction of 12-year prison sentence with RM210 million fine for the embezzlement case of SRC International Sdn Bhd's RM42 million fund.

The Pejuang Chairman explained that Umno needed to be defeated in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

"It needs to be replaced with a Malay party that holds strongly towards the principles of the Malay struggles for race, country and religion.

"I, as a former Umno president and Umno member when it was established in 1946 urge for the party named Umno to be rejected entirely.
