JOHOR BAHRU - Johor police have denied there has been a case of abduction of a student in the state as it has gone viral on social media at the moment.

Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the viral video was actually an old video of a mentally ill man who fled with a student in an incident at Scientex Park, Pasir Gudang, on May 12.

He said the case was considered solved because the suspect had been charged in court here recently.

Hence, he reminded the public not to re-release old videos or any videos that could cause public annoyance, especially among parents.

“We will take action against those who deliberately try to instill fear amongst the public.

“If it is true (an incident took place), lodge a report and we will take action. Be careful when circulating videos,” he said in a press conference at the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here on Thursday.

Kamarul Zaman said that so far, no such cases have occurred in the state, including claims of white vans making its round and tried to kidnap children.

He said that due to the old video being circulated again, some schools became overcrowded as parents waited outside the school worried about their children's safety.
