PUTRAJAYA - The Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales programme for undergraduates (JMKM Siswa) will kick off at 20 public institutions of higher learning on Oct 16, said Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation member Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

"JMKM Siswa is expected to benefit some 589,879 undergraduates and this programme differs from the existing main programme in terms of items offered,” he told a media conference after chairing the task force’s 19th meeting here today.

Mustapa, who is also the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy), said the list of items sold under JMKM Siswa is being finalised, adding that generally, they comprise items such as stationary, dry food and copies of printed material.

It will be held twice weekly until Dec 31, he added.

The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) has been given the responsibility to implement the programme with the cooperation of cooperative stores, entrepreneurship centres in higher education institutes, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Malaysia Cooperatives Commission.

On Sept 15, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, when speaking at the Semarak Patriotik IPT 2022 programme at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), said JMKM will be expanded to institutions of higher learning in October.

As for the JMKM@DE Dagang programme held from Sept 12-17, Mustapa said 10 million people benefited from the sale via discounts, rebates and subsidised deliveries.

"A total of RM543.47 million worth of merchandise was generated through 11 million transactions in the third week of implementation," he said, adding that about 241,000 traders benefited from the sale, including 49,000 new traders and 91,000 female entrepreneurs.

JMKM@DE Dagang was launched on Sept 3 with the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) as the implementing agency and Fave, FoodPanda, Grab and Lazada as its digital platform partners.

It allowed Malaysians to shop at reasonable prices for basic and grocery items, food and home appliances with discounts of up to 20 percent or a maximum of RM100 for each transaction. - BERNAMA
