SHAH ALAM - Selangor assemblyman Ganabatirau Veraman urge the people of Taman Sri Muda not to share old photos of the flood as it can cause panic and to get information from official authorities.

He said old photos from Taman Sri Muda had caused congestion in Shah Alam in 2021 as people panicked and left the area.

“Sharing information without knowing the truth will cause more panic and chaos,” he said to Sinar Daily Politically Frank interview.

He understood that it would be hard to take away the fear from the people especially after facing such a disaster unless mitigation projects were carried out to assure them the same thing would not happen again.

However, for the time being, he said the people should only be taking information from the authorities.

“Please get the right information either from the police, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) or from the weather department.

“Media Selangor will also be reporting,” he said.

Commenting on the efforts done to mitigate floods at Taman Sri Muda, he said he was not satisfied with the work progress.

Although the water canal projects were on schedule, the pumphouse projects had been slower than expected and would only be completed in 2023.

“I don’t know what is the problem they're facing but looks like it’s super slow,” he said.

He also said after constantly pressuring MBSA, they have started clearing the drains in that area which he said was "an ongoing and never-ending project."

However, he said MBSA has promised to upgrade the drainage and pumphouses to improve water flow.

He said the massive last year's year-end floods also occurred in 1971 and 1995 so it is not an act of God. It's a phenomenon that can be predicted and be prepared for.

“So I believe we cannot look for excuses but to come up with a solution,” he said.
