Relatable: Increase female political participation

SHAH ALAM - Ahead of the upcoming Budget 2023, Kampung Tunku assemblyman and All Women's Action Society (AWAM) Programme Manager Lilian Kok expressed their expectations for the forthcoming Budget 2023, and what the government should look into in addressing issues related to women.

One of the key highlights from their discussion from Sinar Daily's women talk show Relatable recently, highlighted on the need for more female representatives.

“I think when we talk about women leadership, how are there few women in the politics and Parliaments, intersectionality or bipartisanship would be a good way to truly utilise and increase budget,” she said during Sinar Daily’s talkshow dubbed “Budget 2023: What Women Wants”.

Taking the Pangerang Member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman as an example, she said Azalina has done a great job when she called the opposition female MPs to draft out the Sexual Crimes Against Children Act.

“I think this is a great effort and we can see female leaders working together despite political differences,” she added.

On the other hand, All Women's Action Society (AWAM) Programme Manager Lilian Kok said increasing women's political participation is a goal that they have been trying to reach for the longest time.

However she said, it is not only about training for women to be interesting political parties but also exposing the communities to normalise female leadership.

“Because that is the problem with our country and some of fellow Malaysians who just cannot accept to see women in the political decision-making position,” she added
