SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Parliament will be dissolved today.

"Yesterday I met the King to dissolve Parliament. He has agreed to Parliament to be dissolved today.

"The mandate is given to the rakyat. It is based on Parliament democracy," he said.

He said this during a special announcement through Bernama TV today. He said nomination day and the polling day will be under the Election Commission.

However, several state assemblies will not be dissolved

"I recommend the heads of state governments except Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor to take appropriate action, to dissolve their respective Legislative Assemblies (DUN) on the same date as the Parliamentary General Election.

"Although some states have decided not to dissolve their respective state assemblies.

"It's relevant to do it simultaneously to make sure not to be a burden to the rakyat, besides making sure the democratic system went smooth and save cost," he said.

Ismail added with the Parliament dissolved today, the rakyat's mandate will be returned to ensure political stability and to build a stronger nation after the 15th General Election (GE15).

"This process is based on the system of Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy as the cornerstone of government since the country achieved independence.

"The dissolution of Parliament also was carried out in order to discredit the voices that have been criticising the legitimacy of the government, the back door government and the government through the roof," he said.

Recently, Ismail Sabri has announced the dissolution of the Parliament after granted by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
