SHAH ALAM – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is grateful that the parliament has been dissolved and that the people’s mandate to vote for a legitimate government can now be done in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

In fact, Zahid -- in a statement issued mere hours after parliament was dissolved today -- believed that to have GE15 soon was the best and most apt way to enable the people to return stability and prosperity to Malaysia.

“Umno demanded for Parliament to be dissolved even though it sits on top of this mixed government shows the party’s bigheartedness. We did it for the sake and safety of the people and the country,” Zahid remarked.

The incumbent MP for the Bagan Datuk constituency also pointed out Umno was, essentially done being nice and playing second fiddle to other parties given the betrayal that it had suffered from those whom it had helped.

“When the country was in chaos after the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, Umno agreed to the appointment of the leader of its rival as Prime Minister.

“However, our good deed was returned by a betrayal. The ‘scheme of all things’ wanted to stab us in the back,” added Zahid.

The dissolution of parliament was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a special address today at 3PM; the announcement meant that GE15 will be done within 60 days.

However, the Election Commission has yet to announce on the actual date for nomination and polling day.
