JOHOR BAHRU - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) party of Johor has denied allegations of harassment that provoked the Muar Mega Speech in Parit Java on Sunday night as a party gimmick.

Its chairman Azrol Rahani said the accusations were baseless and malicious.

He said a police report had been made by the Muda’s Muar Division representative on Monday following the provocation in addition to denying the involvement of Muda who had allegedly made political gimmicks.

“After the incident, some said that it was a gimmick by Muda. That is a baseless and malicious accusation.

“We have all the footage and pictures of those who made the commotion and have been handed over to the police when we lodged the report.

“It is to enable the police to investigate and find the party responsible for directing or employing those involved in the provocation on Sunday night,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

It was reported that Ceramah Mega Muar organised by Muda was interrupted by an incident of provocation from an unknown group of ‘mat motor’.

In the meantime, Azrol said, the incident would not weaken the spirit of Muda Johor to cultivate a new and healthier politics in the country.

“Muda will not stop working, spreading and practicing a new political culture that is healthier so that political expression in society will not be extinguished.

He said that the act of intimidation was to create a sense of unease among the community so that they would not attend any more Muda or Pakatan Harapan (PH) programmes that will be held in the future.

“This directly interferes with the democratic process in Malaysia. This culture is a broken one,” he said.
