ARAU - Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has allocated RM100,000 to be distributed to 100 Universiti Malaysia Perlis (Unimap) students from B40 families.

YBR Board of Trustees member, Datuk Mohd. Shahrizal Sahri said the RM1,000 contribution to each student through the Initial Study Aid (BAP) could help ease the burden of students starting the new semester of their studies.

"The students’ families are struggling with the rising cost of living now,” he said in his speech at the official opening of the Sudut Serambi Ilmu Rakyat (SIR Corner) at Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Library, Unimap, today.

He handed over the contribution to Unimap’s deputy vice-chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Prof Dr Mohd Fo’ad Sakdan.

Also present were YBR general manager, Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani and head of YBR Corporate Administration, Khairul Na'im Arifin.

Mohd Shahrizal said the 'one-off' aid was given to students who had accepted the offer to continue their studies at the diploma and bachelor’s degree level and first to third-semester students who were starting their studies in the new semester.

He also said that YBR had donated RM15,000 for the SIR Corner project to provide a comfortable space for Unimap students to make digital reference at the Unimap library. It was the second contribution of the same amount after the year 2020. - BERNAMA
