He told Sinar Daily’s Politically Frank that Zahid may have indirectly implied the possibility of Umno leaders being charged and jailed.
“There may not need for us to argue that Umno is a party that is corrupt when their own president admits to this fact publicly,” he said.
During his speech at the MIC event earlier this month, Zahid warned that other BN leaders could be selectively prosecuted, just as he and his predecessor, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, had been by the PH administration.
Zahid said Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, MIC president Datuk Seri SA Vigneswaran, party deputy president Datuk M Saravanan, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and Umno politician Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein should not take this issue lightly as they too were supposedly in the crosshairs of their political rivals.
His comments drew laughter from the crowd.
Khalid was also of the opinion despite several Umno division leaders supporting Ismail Sabri to be the 10th Prime Minister, the real power was in Zahid’s hands as he was the party president.
Khalid said this could clearly be seen after parliament was dissolved eventhough Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was not in favour of the move but he still had to follow through due to pressure from some Umno leaders.
On 15th general elections (GE15) to be held this year, he disagreed with the timing.
“What to do? It has been decided and we have to face it,” he said.
Khalid was supportive of the Undi18 movement and believed that young voters have the political maturity to cast a proper decision.
“I believe that the young must surely have the vigilance and idealism to see a clean and effective government that will serve the people,” he said.
He also said Muda’s recent addition to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) alliance will help PH to attract young voters.
