No need for three DPMs is only Pas' opinion and let them be, says PM

AMPANG - Pas’ stance that there is no need for three Deputy Prime Ministers (DPMs) including from Sabah and Sarawak as proposed by Barisan Nasional (BN) is only an opinion, says caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said it was only Pas’ view over the matter and that everyone else has their own views too.

On Pas’ allegation that the proposal was made merely out of desperation to gain votes, Ismail Sabri said “let them be”.

“That is the party’s (Pas) opinion and everyone has their own (opinion). We have our own opinion,” he said when met after the Ekspresi@Finas event at Kompleks Studio Merdeka, here, on Sunday.

When asked about the DPM candidates from Sabah and Sarawak, he said that it has not been decided yet and that the focus now should be given on BN to win the general election.

“Let us win the election first and then we can discuss about this.

“Because if we continue with this manifesto of ours, then the Sabah or Sarawak government will give the names to us.

“You need to vote for us first so that after we win the election, we can discuss further on this,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man described the proposal for the post of DPM to be filled by more than one candidate including from Sabah and Sarawak as a desperate promise by BN to garner more votes for the election.

Yesterday, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN will implement the proposal to have three DPMs in its manifesto including representatives from Sabah and Sarawak and the peninsula if the party emerged as a dominant party in GE15.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman who is also PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the Sabah PH Tour also announced that there will be two DPM positions, one from the peninsula and another will be from Sabah or Sarawak.
