KUCHING - A total of 1,590 firefighters from all fire and rescue stations in Sarawak will undergo simulation exercises starting next week in preparation to face the possibility of floods during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Datuk Khirudin Drahman @ Hussaini said a two-day workshop will also be held starting tomorrow in Sibu, with other enforcement and rescue agencies, to explain the chain of command during an incident.

"We have informed our personnel that leave will be frozen, (approved leave will) be withdrawn at any time and they are asked not to be in remote areas that uncontactable. Those called to duty are registered under the postal voters,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Sarawak JBPM Retiree Appreciation 2022 ceremony, here, last night, he said the duty shift for its personnel will be extended from 12 hours to 24 hours if the situation requires.

According to him, as many as 51 voluntary and community fire brigades established in the state were also asked to be ready to face the possibility of floods during GE15. - BERNAMA
