SHAH ALAM - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) suggests a Democratic Incentive to be given to voters aged 18 to 21 and students in public or private universities, polytechnics, community colleges and Industrial Training Institute.

PKR Communication Director Lee Chean Chung said the incentives worked as a key to persuade young voters to exercise their rights and which could also reduce their travelling costs.

"Undi18 and Automative Voting Registration (AVR) was an important episode in Malaysia's history for the first time in over 65 years since independence, Malaysians were given the rights to ensure the country's fate.

"PKR asks for the current transitional government to implement the incentives in a fair, transparent and efficient manner," he said.

He said PKR noticed out of 5.8 million new voters, 1.2 millions consisted from age 18 to 21 and 4.6 million of them were those aged 21 and above and have not registered after the Undi18 and AVR was done.

Through the numbers, Lee shared there were two groups detected upon the meeting with the youth and new voters where both were not financially independent yet as many were still studying and had their first job.

"The first group was those not realising they were the voters and could choose the leaders of the country, they require the encouragement and drive to actively go out and vote.

"The second group was those who were prepared to vote in Nov 19 but were having obstacles of funds to go home and vote," he said.
