Dr M to contest against four others in what may be his last hurrah

LANGKAWI – Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will contest Langkawi four other candidates including one independent contestant in Langkawi parliamentary seat for the 15th General Election (GE15).

When asked about his plans for Langkawi if he gained victory, he said that he had many plans for Langkawi, which include to increase the frequency of ferries from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi and to resolve the rubbish disposal issue in in the state.

"I don't know the qualities of the other contestants but as far as I can see, I have come with a good support and we are in good spirits.

"It should be my last election. I didn't want to contest this time, but since they held the election early and I did not finish my term before where I was made a prime minister (so that is why I contest),” he said.

Dr Mahathir said he hoped to complete his unfinished business if he won this time.

He also reiterated that Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) had yet to name the candidate for prime minister.

The party's view was that if they had submission numbers and could form the government, then at that stage, they would decide who should be the prime minister.

"We intend to work with other parties, but they must be clean parties, not led by crooks and crminals and all that.

“We need to have common sense over what they should do for this country. With those parties, we will be working together” he said.

When asked about retirement, Mahathir said he said that he was not as old as he looked like and he was abe to function just like younger people.

"I am still standing around and talking to you, I think, making reasonable answers.

“I am not as old as my age, but I have been fortunate that I am able to function just as well as younger people.
