SHAH ALAM - IEC General Meeting 2022 (IEC GM 2022) by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) pins on the importance of standardisation in support of global commerce removing barriers to trade and sustainable development goals.

By aligning the international standards and conformity assessment, businesses could widen their markets and improvise their products where they could be more global friendly.

Apart from enabling businesses to widen their markets, the standardisation work also helped to protect both people and the environment.

The 86th meeting was held on Oct 31 in San Francisco, United States, where a total of 2,000 participants represented 90 countries were involved.

This includes Energy Commission chief executive officer Abdul Razib Dawood and the Standard Malaysia Department’s officers Standardisation Division Senior Director Hussalmizzar Hussain and Mahadir Mohamed.

Razib said Malaysia was committed to achieve net zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) by 2050 through participation in the IEC.

“To decarbonise our economy towards a low carbon economy, industries will need to electrify and as a result, the demand for electricity will increase.

“The share of renewable energy in the total energy mix will also have to increase.
