SHAH ALAM - Female politicians are demanding that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor apologise for his derogatory remarks about women.

In a recent viral TikTok video, Sanusi said “At three in the morning, we could imagine how women sleep, moreover with their tangled hair.

“In that state, how are they going to help flood victims?" he said before adding that women generally require three hours to get ready before leaving the house.

Former Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah stated that Sanusi's statement disregards the contributions of women to our nation.

“I think men or women, in case of emergency, will jump into action,” she told Sinar Daily.

Maria claimed that he is unfit to be a leader, therefore, he must apologise and retract his statement.

Muda vice-president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said she was enraged upon hearing the Kedah MB's statement.

“During the flood last year, I saw many female leaders from various parties come to help victims.

“If he wants to campaign, he can talk about ideas, solutions and why his ideas and solutions are better than other candidates.

Amira also demanded that Sanusi apologises to all women, particularly the Umno candidate he mocked.

In the meantime, Segambut Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Hannah Yeoh stated that Sanusi's statement would not impact the number of female representation in parliament as she believes Malaysians are smarter than that.

“He needs to get himself educated on respect for others before opening his mouth.

"Do not vote for this man or his party or his coalition. Always degrading women. Women get up late, women cannot serve the public. It is too much," she said.

Bentong PH candidate Young Syefura Othman, said that Sanusi's remark is sexist and should not have been made by a chief minister, as his statement is an insult to women's capabilities.

"This scornful attitude towards women is the person's personal attitude. If our country is governed only by men then this attitude will multiply.

“Therefore, there needs to be an awareness in everyone that women can also be leaders, some are better than men as leaders,” Syefura said.

Putrajaya PH candidate Dr Noraishah Mydin stated that she only takes 15 minutes to get ready.

“Serious women do serious work," she said.
