IPOH – The new wave of support primarily from Chinese and Indian voters received by Barisan Nasional (BN) at the time is high.

BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the support was obtained because they were affected by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) administrations.

Zahid shared that in order to capitalize on the new wave of support, the entire party machinery doubled their efforts within a week.

“I was excited during my visit to several Parliamentary constituencies contested by BN candidates. We found that Chinese voters had made a new wave towards giving their support to BN because of how they suffered for 22 months under PH and 17 months under PN.

“The same was for Indian communities who had shown good development. Their support for BN has also increased.”

“It has probably approached about 45 per cent [of support] and this new wave is due to the failure of the previous two governments,” he said to reporters after officiating the ‘Let’s Come Back to Vote’ in Bagan Datuk Fiesta at the Bagan Datuk Waterfront Jetty, here, on Saturday.

Zahid said the main operations room in the state and the district voting centres (PDM) have been ordered to double their efforts to gain votes through door-to-door visits.

He shared that BN is working hard to ensure dark areas, identified as the ones who were not giving their support to BN and the grey areas, where only a portion are voting for the party, will be changed into grey and white areas.

“In addition, those who are in the grey-white categories regardless of their race, be it Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, Dusuns, Murut or Orang Asli, we will ensure that their misery and suffering which they experienced in GE14 will be forgotten. Each had suffered regrets and now they want to support BN to form the new government.

“Though the time left is short [until election], focused efforts are being made by all of our machinery at every level,” he said.

Regarding the Youth voters, Zahid explained the awareness of the group at the time is higher in comparison to the State Election (SE) in Melaka and Johor.

He said through research made by the party, it saw over 80 per cent of youth voters had chosen the ‘establishment’ meaning BN and would like the trend to be maintained.
