'Father said not to leave the Quran'

Affectionately known by the nickname of Paksu Mid among the locals in Padang Terap, he was known for his religious wisdom and was often referred to by various parties including the country's leaders.
When met by reporters at the family's home in Kuala Pai recently his second son
Pirdaus Abdul Hamid, 41, said his late father always received visits from various walks of life including national leaders and commoners to seek advice.
"Many came to visit dad, he always gave good advice. Most of the (advice) were practices in the Quran. They (visitors) would bring the Quran, and dad would advice them according to the teachings of the Quran and they would note it.
" His main advice especially to the children, were to always refer to the Quran and to never leave its teachings
"When he was sick and could not recite the Quran, we would play a recording and he would listen," he said
Abdul Hamid 96, passed away due to old age at 6:30pm on Friday at the Putra Medical Centre (PMC), in Alor Setar.
Pirdaus explained that his late father had previously often sought treatment at the hospital, but his health had deteriorated over the past three weeks.
"Dad had already signalled that he did not want to go to the hospital during the last three weeks, but we (family members) still tried to bring him over for treatment. But his had come, we accept it," he said.
Abdul Hamid was laid to rest at Masjid An-Najah cemetery at Ayer Hitam yesterday.He is survived by his widow Inche Ollah Arshat, in her 60s, three children and 10 grandchildren.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor extended his condolences on his social media post, describing Abdul Hamid's passing as a huge loss
Meanwhile caretaker Rural Development minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid who visited the family extended his condolences and said that the country had lost a very knowledgeable scholar.
