SUNGAI SIPUT – Barisan Nasional (BN) fully leaves it to the Election Commission (EC) to investigate any misconduct related to the expenditure of the party’s candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15).

BN treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the party would not hide any misconduct of candidates throughout the campaign duration.

However, he said the investigations done towards any misconduct complaints should be transparent and not be revealed.

“We have an agency that monitors (any misconduct), if there is any offence, no matter from which party I hope EC would take the appropriate action.

“Let the process and action not be fanned to be used for cheap politics approaching the voting day on Nov 19,” he told reporters after the Ramah Mesra With BN Candidates Programme at the Sungai Siput Convention Centre on Sunday.

Also present was MIC President who was the Sungai Siput Parliament candidate Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, Lintang State Assembly candidate Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun and Jalong State Assembly candidate Pan Chean Chang.

On Nov 7, a news portal reported a candidate and questioned the actions of the opposing candidate who claimed to have violated the Election Commission Act (ECA) 1957.

The installation of campaign materials before nomination day and the expenditure limit to finance a political campaign went over RM200,000 were among the offences allegedly made by the candidate.

Hishammuddin was confident that the Sungai Siput Parliamentary seat would return to BN based on the response of the local community.

He explained BN’s victory in Sungai Siput would continue the legacy thus giving the benefit towards the community in Parliament.

He said the composition of candidates in Sungai Siput Parliament was not different from that in Sembrong Parliament that he held.

“There are similarities between us here and what I went through in Sembrong where the MPs came from Umno, one Paloh Assemblyman from MCA and one more Kahang Assemblyman from MIC. I hope this could prove that diversity is a strength.

“This gives a message for those who want to practice hatred, division, racism and revenge politics, I see it had worn down the youth and it was repeated for many years, surely that is not the only thing we fight for,” he said.
