He said Malaysia once a developed country is somehow going backwards as compared to neighbouring countries who are soaring higher in various field.
"There was a time, we were proud of our economy and good education system. Foreign investors loved us, our country was filled my international students and tourists all over the world.
"Sadly, today's young generation is witnessing a different dimension of the country we knew before.
"The cohesion between us is loosening, the country's position at world level is collapsing," he said in a special address aired in his Facebook account.
Anwar said Malaysians are generlly facing a hard time due to struggling econom and small business owners have closed shops.
To cope with these issues, Anwar said the government should take responsibility and ensure that the country is in good hands with corruption in check.
"Government should guarantee the basics of life such as quality of schools, sufficient food supply, skilled doctors and nurses, and fair access to the health system.
"The government must not neglect in ensuring people achieve a reasonable standard of living for themselves and their families," he reasoned.
The veteran politician also urged Malaysians to choose the right political party in the 15th General Election (GE15) as it determines the future of the country for the next five years.
"Malaysians who are voting this Saturday (Nov 19) have a good opportunity in sketching their future. What we need right now is an economic system that defends everyone's destiny.
"We really need a policy that will support more than 1.2 million small business owners hit from the pandemic," he said.
