GE15: Commotion at Kampung Melang Town Hall a misunderstanding

SUBANG JAYA – Police confirm a report lodged regarding a commotion that takes place in a polling centre in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the commotion was due to a misunderstanding after the polling centre had been closed early due to the lack of voters.

"However, a portion of voters came late. We leave the matter to the Election Commission (EC) for further comments," he explained.

He said this after surveying the situation at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Selangor Subang Parliament polling centre, USJ, here on Saturday.

Previously, a viral video was circulated on social media about voters who were not satisfied with the polling centre at Kampung Melang Town Hall being closed as early as 2pm.

The video recorded by a citizen showed the polling centre gates being closed and there were a few of the public waiting to enter the hall to vote.

There were voters who were not satisfied because they claimed that polling stations should be open until 6pm.

In another development, Acryl Sani said he received a report regarding a senior citizen who was found unconscious after casting his vote in Cheras.

He said based on preliminary information, he understood that no criminal elements were detected in the death of the senior citizen however, more information would be shared after the autopsy was completed.

"So far we don't know the cause of death, we are waiting on the autopsy.

“At the time I do not want to comment, but I was informed there were no traces of criminal elements to the death of the senior citizen," he said.

He thanked all parties involved who ensured the smooth flow of the 15th General Election (GE15) throughout the country on Saturday.

He said as of 4.50pm, 14 million Malaysians had cast their vote.

"I understand around 14 million or 68.7 per cent of voters had successfully voted.

“From the observation made, we found that it was crowded from 8am to noon and it has now started to ease up.

"I want to thank all of those who were involved in the voting process today, all of it was controlled and the public had followed procedures set by the EC," he told Sinar Harian.
