JOHOR BAHRU - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi needs to immediately step down from his position instead of negotiating with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form the government.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazali said Zahid's actions as the BN chairman to negotiate with PH to establish the mixed government was not valid if it had happened.

"While Umno members are waiting for Zahid's action to resign as soon as possible, he on the other hand, if what was reported was true is busy negotiating with PH and DAP.

"Zahid had led us all to the warzone and his image was among the cause of BN's major loss.

"He shouldn't be representing the party to negotiate to any parties without the party's approval," he said through a statement on Monday.

Hafiz who was the BN election operations director stated Zahid would not be able to carry the mandate of the party without the agreement from Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) and BN Supreme Council.

"For your information, the Umno president and BN chairman could not carry the party mandate without the agreement of the Umno MKT and the BN Supreme Council.

"Therefore, decisions made by the president without this process were invalid from the party constitution," he said.

Zahid on Sunday said BN had never once negotiated with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to give the agreement regarding the establishment of a new government with Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The PH and BN leadership had a meeting at 10am this morning, even though the details of the meeting were not disclosed.

Hafiz reminded that Umno's last decision was not to cooperate with PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.

"Let us continue to be dignified and principled even when tested with defeat. InsyaAllah there is its wisdom.

"Once again I request and plead for the Umno president to resign honourably as soon as possible," he said.
