Trader claims trial to 22 counts of cheating

KUANTAN - A trader pleaded not guilty today in separate Magistrate’s courts to 22 counts of cheating seven people of RM211,800 regarding offers for the sale of land lots and vehicle tenders as well as loans since February last year.

Abdul Kadir Salleh, 64, of Panching Selatan here, faces 13 counts of cheating three men into handing him between RM3,000 and RM15,000 in several locations in Jaya Gading here, between Feb 8, 2021 and Dec 30, 2021.

The charges, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, provide an imprisonment for up to 10 years and whipping, and also fine, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Anuarul Hakim Abdul Muen, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM76,000 in one surety, however, Abdul Kadir, who was unrepresented, said he had a mother, wife and school-going children to support.

Magistrate Fatinah Abu Bakar then set bail at RM26,000 in one surety and fixed Jan 6 for mention.

Meanwhile, the accused was charged with nine counts of cheating four people into handing him between RM500 and RM5,000 between May 14, 2021 and June 1, 2022 for the same purpose.
