PUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has opened an investigation paper over embezzlement of public funds amounting to RM600 billion.

MACC said it will conduct a detailed, transparent, and professional investigation from all angles related to the issue.

"Any party who has any relevant information, evidence, or documents are requested to come to the nearest MACC office to submit the information," it said in a statement.

If necessary, MACC will send officers to collect the information or documents.

The newly appointed International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said today that he has nothing to hide in relation to allegations of misappropriation of RM600 billion in public funds.

According to reports, MACC will contact at least three former Perikatan Nasional officials as part of its investigations.

They are Zafrul who served as the former finance minister, former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The RM600 billion comprised of funds for Covid-19 vaccines and was designated for use during the Covid-19 pandemic.

MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki had previously said that the commission had begun an investigation into the claims.
